Ignite Talks

What's an Ignite talk? Four minutes on stage to talk about an idea, an interest or a passion. Our version is 15 slides that rotate automatically after 15 seconds. It's fun, it's fast, and the format forces you to really think about what you want to say.

Game? Let us know asap. This event fills up every year, so the only way to confirm a slot is to post your idea title and brief summary below.

To do a great Ignite talk, tell us about something you're passionate about, something that others should know, or some unique bit of knowledge or insight that you can impart. (And please don't do a pitch or your company creds)

Activate, Inspire, Ignite

The face of the work force is constantly changing and so is the "stuff" that activate, inspire and ignite our newcomers that have to carve and make their way into the working world. How can we help ignite their passion and ultimately their performance to get a win-win situation for workers and workplace?

Memento - A Story of Amnesia

When my 17 year old developed amnesia due to a concussion this year, I had no idea how her recovery would impact our family, way of life and my understanding of human relationships. This is a story of everything that's happened so far, what I learnt about the human brain and humanity and also about life, love and parenting.

Story Without Audience

The is world is morphing and getting increasingly fused. The transition is fueled by the "internet of all things". The inclusiveness of the digital space is rapidly materializing the utopian dream of a "global village". This is leading to an exclusion of of larger population that are not digitally-compliant. What implication does this have for the future mankind ?

From Melaka to Cape Town - our entwined history and diverse stories

Growing up in a multi-racial and multi-cultural country and then working in a cosmopolitan city with people from all over the world thought me that there is not just one point of view that is right. I have learned to accept other people's opinions and cultures, and at the same time, to share my perspective and celebrate my heritage. My children are British (have never been to the UK), born in Singapore and growing up in South Africa. It will be interesting to see how they define themselves and I'm excited to see more people in the world now who have to break the typical norms of identifying themselves via nationality and race. They will have to find connections in different ways.

How i reduced my carbon footprint in 2018 and ways in which i want to extend it country wide

Conscious living and life experiences have led me down this route. My husband prompted this change and he is extremely passionate. I want to inspire and extend this style of living across peers and friends and then plug it into the larger eco system with an idea that i believe will change the F&B industry.

I Turned 40 And Dedicated This Year To Activism Against Patriarchy

I turned 40 in January 2018 and had an overwhelming need to do more to make South Africa and the world better. It's so easy to complain about the state of the world via social media or around the braai, but I wanted to get off the couch so to speak. I hate with a passion all forms of inequality - gender inequality, race equality, class inequality - so I dedicated this year to getting active and doing more to end patriarchy and I would like to share what I have been upto so far.
