what3words | From a quirky creative idea to a global standard.
3 years ago what3words was awarded a Cannes Lion Grand Prix for Innovation for an odd idea with a load of potential. Rather than the end of the journey it was just the start. Since then the value of the company has increased by 2000% and earlier this year Mercedes bought 10%. There are over a thousand cars on the road that now accept 3 word addresses and the system is being used for drone delivery and in autonomous vehicles.
